First appearing in 1990, the ZZR600 "D series" was always billed as a sports tourer by Kawasaki. Although a powerful faired bike (The fastest 600 at the time) it was never quite small and light enough to compete in the pure sports class. It had an aluminium frame but was still fairly heavy at almost 200kg dry.
